Blount Names 2016 Johnson & Wales Culinary Intern
Senior Kirsten Nelson of Martha’s Vineyard learning the ropes as member of Blount Culinary Team
Corporate Executive Chef Jeff Wirtz, and all of Blount Fine Foods this week welcomed the company’s newest Johnson & Wales culinary intern, Kirsten Nelson. Ms. Nelson, a senior at J&W, is a Culinary Nutrition major with a concentration in Food Science.
Blount’s Johnson & Wales University internship program is part of a longstanding relationship the company has with the university, whose flagship campus is in nearby Providence.
Blount research chef Thomas Gervasi is supervising Nelson’s internship. The focus of the program is for the intern to learn about, experience and contribute to the processes associated with the development of new food products. Those processes range from product ideation to sample development to product scale and optimization.
Ms. Nelson, who hails from Martha’s Vineyard, tells us she likes to spend time outside of the kitchen creating wire-wrapped jewelry and seeing live music.
