Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT’S THE BEST METHOD FOR HEATING BLOUNT SOUPS? WHAT’S THE BEST METHOD FOR HEATING A FOODSERVICE BAG OF SOUP?

The best way to heat your soup is to drop the frozen bag in boiling water for approximately 40 minutes. Carefully remove the bag from the water, cut it open and pour into your serving dish. The same applies to refrigerated soup – only heat it for 20 minutes on the stovetop.

We do not recommend you microwave our bags of soup but prefer you follow the boil-in-bag instructions as mentioned above.

WHAT’S THE BEST METHOD FOR HEATING ALL OTHER PRODUCTS?

We make our products in a variety of sizes so the length of time needed to heat your package will vary. Please consult the package for exact heating instructions. If using the stovetop, pour product into a heavy saucepan and heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until hot. For microwave use, be sure to remove the plastic seal from the package and loosely cover with microwavable plastic wrap or paper towel before microwaving. Stir the soup halfway through the recommended cooking time.

THE PRODUCT I BOUGHT IS REFRIGERATED. CAN I FREEZE IT?

For best results, we recommend you serve your refrigerated product right away. If you'd like to freeze it, you can, as long as it is frozen before the use by date on the package. Once frozen, it will last nine months from that date in your freezer.

I HEATED YOUR PRODUCT AND STILL HAVE SOME LEFTOVER. CAN I REFREEZE IT AFTER IT’S BEEN HEATED?

No, we do not recommend you refreeze the product after it has been heated. The best way to store it after it has been heated is to let it cool to 39°F or less, then cover and store it in your refrigerator for up to 3 days.

HOW LONG WILL BLOUNT’S SOUPS HOLD ON A STEAM TABLE AND AT WHAT TEMPERATURE SHOULD SOUP BE MAINTAINED?
Soups should be held at 140°F or above and will hold on a steam table for approximately 4 hours.
IS YOUR SOUP READY-TO-SERVE OR CONDENSED?
All Blount’s soups are all ready-to-serve.  No need to add anything – just heat and serve.
DO YOU HAVE ANY LOW FAT SOUPS?
Yes, we have many soups that are low in fat such as: Manhattan Clam Chowder, Maryland Crab Soup, Chicken Noodle, Chicken & Wild Rice Soup, Three Bean Chili, Hearty Vegetable Soup, Minestrone Soup, Black Bean Soup and Fire-Roasted Vegetable Soup
I SEE YOU HAVE SOME VEGETARIAN SOUPS. DO YOU HAVE ANY SOUPS THAT ARE VEGAN?
Yes, we have many soups that are vegan such as: Three Bean Chili, Black Bean Soup, Fire-Roasted Vegetable Soup and Organic Ancient Grain Minestrone Soup.
DO YOUR PRODUCTS CONTAIN TRANS FATS?
We avoid ingredients containing partially hydrogenated oils, therefore our products do not contain artificial trans fats. In some cases, naturally occurring trans fats may be present due to ingredients from animal sources such as beef or dairy products.
IS THERE MSG IN ANY OF YOUR PRODUCTS?
We do not add monosodium glutamate (MSG) to any of our products. However, because MSG can be found naturally occurring in many foods such as tomatoes, cheeses, yeast extracts, and more, we cannot say that all products are “MSG Free”.  The level of naturally occurring MSG is far below the threshold for triggering a reaction in someone with a sensitivity.
ARE YOUR SOUPS KOSHER?
Unfortunately, we currently do not offer any soups that are kosher.
I HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES. HOW WILL I KNOW IF I CAN EAT ANY OF YOUR SOUPS?
We take food allergies very seriously at Blount. If you suffer from a food allergy, we recommend you review each and every ingredient statement carefully before consuming one of our products. Our manufacturing facility does not use peanuts, but we do use coconut which is considered a tree nut. We also have products that contain milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, wheat, and soy.
HOW ARE YOUR PRODUCTS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER MANUFACTURERS?
Our production capabilities are far superior to any in the industry.  Most other soup companies use cans, trays (where you have to add cream or water), and or 8lb bags.  Our convenient 4lb bag (64oz) is only 8/8oz servings and minimizes a kitchens shrink. We have fresh ingredients arriving daily to the Fall River plant for product in the same day. Our ingredient statements are some of the cleanest ones you’ll see. We also offer many different types from All Natural, Organic, Wheat Free, Vegan, Vegetarian, Dairy Free, and Low Fat.
I CURRENTLY MAKE SOUPS FROM SCRATCH. WHY SHOULD I SWITCH TO BLOUNT SOUPS?
All of Blount’s heat and serve soups are consistent not only in quality but in price as well.  By switching to Blount, you’ll never lose a batch of soup again due to improper cooling and it saves Chefs’ time. Any staff member that can boil water can produce consistent soups day in and day out.
Our soups are packed in a convenient 4lb bag (64oz) and minimizes a kitchens shrink. These two gallon cases allow Chefs to be flexible with soups of the day and provide seasonal soups such as Albondigas, Thanksgiving Everyday and Spiced Pumpkin.
We offer Wheat Free, All Natural, Organic, Vegetarian and Vegan soups that may be time consuming to make.
Blount’s refrigerated soups have a 50-90 day shelf-life and frozen soups have 365 days from the date of manufacture. Please check the use by date on the package.
WHAT IS NISIN PREPARATION IN YOUR INGREDIENT LIST? IS IT CONSIDERED A DAIRY PRODUCT?
Nisin Preparation is a natural antimicrobial and is used throughout the food industry as a natural method of extending shelf life, and is used in very small amounts. There is no food allergy risk associated with Nisin Preparation and there is no dairy in this ingredient. It does not contain antibiotics nor enzymes of any kind.
